Dr Preeti Parakh
Dr Preeti Parakh has been in the field of psychiatry for more than a decade. After doing her specialization in psychiatry from Banaras Hindu University, she joined the prestigious Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh as a Senior Resident in the Department of Psychiatry. During this period, she had the opportunity to work closely with people with addiction-related problems and ended up developing a lifelong interest in addiction medicine. She realized that most psychiatrists easily give up on patients of alcohol or drug dependence, believing that these cases are hopeless. Her own experience in her private practice has been different. She believes that all addicts can be helped provided they are willing to continue with treatment, which lasts for months and requires regular consultations. In addition to de-addiction, she has expertise in the treatment of all general psychiatric disorders like mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychosis and so on. In addition to excellent clinical skills, her pleasant personality and compassionate nature are very much appreciated by her patients. Indeed, her patients have often been heard saying that just talking to her makes them feel better. She is open and thorough about why she recommends a treatment or a diagnostic test.
Dr Parakh has published in many national and international journals and has also written book chapters. She is fluent in Hindi, English, and Bengali. She is a Life Fellow of the Indian Psychiatric Society. She also is a life member of the Indian Association of Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Indian Association of Social Psychiatry, Indian Association of Geriatric Mental Health, and the Indian Association of Private Psychiatry.
